What it does
Dimethicone forms a breathable film on the skin that slows water loss and gives that immediate silky, blurred feel. It is inert, non-comedogenic in most testing, and is a standard component of barrier-repair and post-procedure products.
The "silicones suffocate your skin" claim has no good evidence behind it — the film is permeable to water vapour and gas. What is true is that heavy silicone products need proper cleansing, and that some people simply dislike the texture.
If your skin is dry or compromised, dimethicone is a friend, not a villain.
